Light On

Hey, I’m Anny and this is Light On - my second self-written song.

I previously released a single with Calum Scott, after fulfilling my dream of winning The Voice of Germany (at the 6th attempt) in 2022. I took some time to build and discover who I am, and my first own single “Out To Get Us” came out last November. In January, I released a cover of Emeli Sandé's "Clown" which I sang on the voice, and now it's time for Light On - a song I wrote 2 years ago, just after winning the show.

I was starting to feel like I wasted the time and chance I had because I waited on people, promising, important people, who had vowed to help and work with me. It turned out they were only after a piece of my quick success, but I was naive enough to believe they were actually interested in building my career. There's a hole in my CV because of these people, and I finally have the guts to not take the blame anymore.

I'm patient, I usually look for the best in people, but there's a breaking point. That's what Light On is about: About not waiting for broken promises to be kept anymore, about mourning dreams and wasted chances, but moving on stronger and wiser. Yet in all that, leaving a light on - leaving the door open a crack, in case someone does change their mind and comes around to apologize and do better. It's about being the bigger person, but knowing your own value at the same time. About keeping a little of that naivety to stay kind, without compromising your future. Now in my case, it was written about a close professional relationship. But I believe it's a very universal feeling, whether coming from a romantic relationship or a friendship that broke up.

I'm grateful to have grown up listening to great artists such as Whitney Houston and Céline Dion, so I consider my music a contemporary take on old-school music industry ideals. I like songs to take up the space they deserve – something epic to captivate the listener immediately and immerse them in it, with vocals and melodies to remember. In my mind, songs are like jokes – they’re not great if they need too much explaining.

So go listen for yourself and (hopefully) enjoy my single “Light On”.

Much love,

Anny
