Gifted Kid

Gifted Kid is a song about artists' reality, about the journey from being an unusually skilled child to a struggling people-pleasing adult. The song draws strongly from my own experience and uses sound elements from my childhood as well as my time on The Voice of Germany.

Being a gifted kid at the center of attention, I didn't learn to learn and only defined myself based on my skillset rather than my personality. This commonly leads to an identity crisis at an age where it's not that extraordinary to be good at something anymore, so I became a people pleaser to keep impressing people with what I do rather than who I am. I felt alone in this until I met other musicians with similar experiences - so it only felt right to make it the topic of my latest writing session.

Gifted Kid is an anthem to a non-linear career path starting very young, so the song's structure is less linear than unusual and climaxes in an epic open ending, just like the life of a former gifted kid.
